Early success for Highvale Robotics club

On Saturday May 16, 14 of our students traveled to North Sunshine to compete in a Vex robotics exhibition match at the DATTAVic conference.  The competition had each team pair up with another school and work together to beat another team of two at a set challenge.  At the end of the trials the top four teams select the team they want to work with in the finals.

With only 3 weeks preparation time we were only just ready and were competing against some well-built robots so we had modest expectations.

However, our teams performed very well due to great passion and positive teamwork. The year eight boys could not stop talking about their constructions and were able to explain in detail the function and design of their robot to the judges.  So well in fact that they were awarded the “design award”.

Our year 9 Girls team showed great listening and teamwork skills such that the top finalist selected them as their teammate in the finals.  The girls went on to help this team win the overall competition.

The excitement levels were high and the students clearly enjoyed the day.  Congratulations to the winning teams and we look forward to extending our knowledge to meet the next challenge!

DATTA Victoria Preseason Tournament Day-2

DATTA Victoria had another great day of robotics at Harvester College. We had teams from Hillcrest Christian College, Emmaus College, Highvale Secondary College, Forest Hill College and Hazel Glen College.  The tournament ran 14 matches before finals. After some very intense matches Highvales all girls team, 93720D and Emmaus 6194E came out on top, winning the tournament.  Rookie team Highvale 93720A went home with the design award and last but not least Emmaus 6194E won the Excellence Award. Hillcrest 7479B deserves an honorable mention for their unique and functional robot design.

We would like to thank all of the teams for coming out to this Preseason game, your energy and excitements really promoted what VEX Robotics is all about.

Thank you again to our sponsor Tools For Schools! We would not have been able to have this tournament without your support.
