Scienceworks - VEX Victoria State Finals

VEX made its way into the Melbourne Scienceworks Pumping Station this past Friday for the Victoria state finals. The tournament saw the largest Australian turnout ever at a VEX competition. 24 teams from across Victoria competed with their modern machines between the 125 year old flywheels and pumps. Although the VEX robots looked tiny in comparison to their great great grandparents they came and they conquered.

Robot engineering made huge leaps and bounds since the October tournament. Teams like Copperfield and Hillcrest College consistently scored stacked mobile goal in every match. Highvale College fine tuned their autonomous routines to score highest stacks in every match and dandenong high school refined their unique drawbridge lift to a point where it works like clockwork. I would think that the old pumps were standing proud of the next generation of robotics.

At the end of the day Copperfield College took home the Excellence Award for their outstanding design, Sportsmanship and overall rankings. A hillcrest and Emmaus College alliance took home the tournament champions trophies they worked incredibly hard for all day. The judges choice award was given to Highvale D, for their outstanding design and performance and finally the Robotics Boomerangs went away with the SMC Amaze award.

A special thank you needs to go out to our Head judge Chrissi and the engineering team from Boeing Australia. Without the support of our judging volunteers we would not be able recognize all of the great design work that our students do.
